My family is preparing to move to another city. As we prepare to make this move, our house seems to be in more disarray or chaos each day. We have been going through our belongings, deciding what to give away, what to throw away and what to pack. Every now and then, it is time to reevaluate and decided what needs to stay and what needs to go. In the physical sense, moving is a time when you might go through your possessions and get rid of things that you no longer need. This process takes chaos, in order to find order you must go through chaos. Things must be pulled out and sorted through. This can be done in an orderly fashion but the overall process is taking something that is in order and pulling it out, putting it in temporary chaos in order to go through it and create a higher level of order.

Your mind is the same way. Your mind collects things over time. Some of the things you collect serve you, some don’t, and some served their purpose and it is time to let them go. Much like cleaning out your home for a move, spring cleaning or just needing to go through things, it is important to go through your mind.  One of the ways to go through your mind, is to start recognizing your thoughts. Writing down the things you think is an excellent way to recognized what you are thinking. When recognizing and writing your thoughts down, you also need to sort them. Have 2 journals to write in, one for positive and one for negative. Separating the positive in one and the negative in the other will help you see what you are keeping in your mind. You may call your journal for negative thoughts your black journal and your journal for positive thoughts your gratitude journal.

The black journal is place for negative thoughts to go so they are not taking up space in your mind. You need that space to think about more important things like family, achieving goals, etc. Do you feel like something is holding you back from your dreams? This one journal will help to give you more room to focus on what you want to focus on.

Now that you have extra room in your brain, it is time to fill it. It is important to fill it with information that will help you reach your goals and dreams. Let’s say your dream is to go to Hawaii on vacation. Fill your mind with information about Hawaii. Read books about the best places to visit in Hawaii, the best restaurants to eat at, and the history of the island. Find people who have visited or lived in Hawaii, ask questions and learn all that you can from them. Start planning your vacation, decide where you want to stay, what car you want to rent, where you will eat, where you will hike, where you will visit, etc. When you get rid of your negative thoughts and saturate your mind with your dream, your mind will find a way to make it happen. The trip to Hawaii is one example but this can be used for any dream you can imagine.

Are you ready to fill your dreams? Start one step at a time. Get the negative out so you have room for more important things.
